Hair care is an important part of woman’s life. No matter how reputable a salon might seem, it’s still difficult to blindly trust them – especially with your hair!  You definitely don’t want to end up with a stylist that butchers your cut or botches your color. Here are few tips that will help you choose the right hair salon for your color, cut, and styling needs.

Prior to visiting a salon, check for online reviews, ratings and testimonials of past clients. This will offer a glimpse of what you can expect to see and receive at the salon.  If the reviews and ratings seem positive, give them a call and try to determine how they function. It’s a good idea to probe them and see how they respond to your questions, or if they give relevant and educated answers. This shows their professionalism and client satisfaction policies. If they care for you and treat you like a valuable client, they are definitely a viable option.

When you are considering visiting a hair salon for a haircut (whether just a trim, or a new, dramatic cut), hair color, or even a style, one of the most important things is finding a stylist that will communicate with you, listen to you, and understand what you are looking to achieve. When you visit a hair salon, regardless of their reputation or name, you need to know that the hair stylist is willing (and capable) of making you happy.

Hair stylists should be confident and knowledgeable about their techniques, skills, and products, and guide you according to your individual hair type and needs.  Just like no two haircuts are alike, not every client can be given the same “hair diagnosis” or product recommendation. Before doing anything, the hair stylist should give you a proper consultation, asking what you currently do with your hair, what issues you are having, what you would like to achieve, what products you currently use, etc.. Based on this information, the stylist should be able to suggest the right cut, style, and products based on your individual needs. The last thing you want is a ‘do that you’re not happy with.

Hygiene and cleanliness is very important in a hair salon. Every day there are so many clients and employees walking in and out of a salon. Cleaning and disinfecting the tools used after cutting and styling every client is extremely necessary and important. Before booking an appointment, you can drop into the salon to ask some questions and take a look around, so you can evaluate the salon in person.

When you are at the salon, take a look at the other clients, watch the stylists for a few minutes, see if you like what you see. If possible, talk to clients who are waiting for their appointments and find out if they are regulars there. If yes, ask about their experience. It should be positive (otherwise, why are they coming back?). It’s a good idea to ask for referrals from these clients, though if you personally know someone who visits this salon regularly, that’s even more ideal!

Don’t forget to check their pricelist as well, and inquire about the product brands they use and carry in the salon. The products will also give you an idea about the quality to expect from the salon. If their pricing is too low, I would suggest steering clear. This often suggests that the stylists are not that knowledgeable, and does not usually imply a quality hair experience.

Based on all of these tips, if it seems like a salon meets your requirements and fares well in all major aspects, give their services a shot, and see for yourself!
